Chikungunya in Réunion
Between 20-26 January 2025, 31 new chikungunya cases were reported in Réunion. During this period the municipality of Trois-Bassins reported a case for the first time. Six outbreaks currently remain active. Since 23 August 2024, a total of 339 locally acquired cases have been reported in Réunion, of these 200 cases were reported in 2025. Prior to the outbreak that began on 23 August, the last locally acquired case detected in Réunion was during 2014. Please see our Topics in Brief article for further details on chikunguyna.
